Evidence-Based Care

Start Your Therapy Journey

You don’t need a physician’s referral if you’re an individual who wishes to see one of our clinicians – new clients are always welcome. When you contact us, an intake specialist will gather important information about your needs, in order to match you to the right therapist.

Here's what you can expect on your first appointment:

  1. Over the course of an assessment, usually about 50 minutes, your therapist will ask about your symptoms and other challenges that you are struggling with.

  2. Following this, your therapist will provide feedback about the results of your assessment and make recommendations for treatment.

  3. If your therapist believes that the services that CBT Associates offers are appropriate for your condition, they'll discuss the details of your treatment plan. If your therapist does not feel that our services are appropriate to your needs, they'll suggest other resources for you to contact.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a clinically proven method that focuses on the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. By identifying how they are related and what they trigger, we can change how we feel. Simply, CBT helps us manage our feelings, so we may ultimately develop a healthier, more positive outlook.

Individual CBT programs are developed between therapist and client in a collaborative manner. The goal of CBT is to help clients become their own effective therapists; practicing skills and strategies between sessions is a core component of CBT. Whatever challenges you are experiencing, we’ll listen closely and do our best to develop a treatment plan that works for you.

As evidence-based practitioners, we collaborate with our clients to design personalized treatment plans that often integrate a number of CBT approaches. These include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Behaviour Therapy
  • Behavioural Activation
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Emotion-Focused Treatment (EFT)
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
  • Mindfulness Meditation
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT)
  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
  • Relaxation

Psychologists are trained to be scientific-practitioners. This means that our practice is guided by the best evidence provided by current research on what works for common problems.

The treatments and techniques our registered clinicians employ have been shown to be the most effective in reducing symptoms and improving the quality of life for people experiencing anxiety, mood, stress and relationship problems
